Getting DVDs on Microsoft Surface RT/Pro for playback

Microsoft Surface is poor in video playback. It lacks powerful video apps to decode kinds of video files. Though it’s as powerful as a laptop in some respects, it doesn’t have the ability to read and play discs. So it’s a great pity for users who store lots DVD discs in their home.

In my opinion, spending lots of time to find a video app isn’t equal to put DVD movies on Surface RT by using a 3rd party tool. Here, i will share my own experience on how to load DVD movies onto Surface with you.

At first, you should use a Windows 8 DVD Ripper. Here i take Pavtube DVD Ripper to show you how to use such DVD ripping software for Windows Surface RT. Install this tool on your computer ( Note: This application only works on Personal computer ). After that, just follow the steps.

Step 1. Run this DVD to Surface converter. Load your DVD movie into it. As far as i know, you can import DVD disc, DVD ISO, DVD IFO or DVD folder.

Step 2. Select a suitable video format for Surface playing. With Pavtube, what you need to do is rather easy, just click “Format > Windows > Microsoft Surface Windows RT H.264 Video (*.mp4)”.

This profile is encoded in 16:9, which will give you Full Screen effect.

Step 3. Start ripping DVD movies for Surface RT by clicking on “convert” button.

Hope this simple guide is really useful for you to convert DVD videos to Surface RT for viewing.
